SCHOOL BASED PROGRAM
All workshops begin with an Acknowledgement of Country and the importance of this practice to honour the First Nation of the country we live on, work on and meet on to deliver the Lakun Mara weaving workshops. I share my story of weaving and the strong cultural connection to my Ngarrindjeri and Ngadjuri heritage. It includes historical content in relation to the impact of colonisation and invasion has had upon Aboriginal people. The impact on loss of land, language and cultural practices. Strong emphasis on cultural revival and maintenance for the survival of the weaving traditions which is at the heart of Lakun Mara. I also share a wide range of examples of my weaving demonstrating the diversity of materials and techniques I use when creating my weaving pieces.
